Print Standardization & Management Software

Chromozone is a Print Standardization and Management Software which assists in obtaining consistent print quality through Closed-loop Color Control. Chromozone enables the printer to achieve print standardization according to global standards such as ISO 12647-2. Chromozone generates the optimum initial inking value to help achieve a faster make-ready, measures the color bar and displays the print quality parameters according to the targets and tolerances. Based on the scanned values, ink-key recommendations are sent to the press. A unique Quality Index is generated by Chromozone which enables comparison of jobs run at different points of time, setting benchmarks for customer acceptance, and even for comparing two different presses.

  • Compliance with Standards:

Chromozone aids the user to print to global standards such as ISO 12647-2. It is also easy to configure the system to comply with a local or in-house standard.
  • Packaging Support :

In packaging jobs, consistency of color across all the ups is the primary objective. Chromozone assists in measuring and comparing the L*a*b* and density values of the images present in the printed sheet. A comprehensive view of the variation in print quality across the printed image is shown in real time. Reference can be set manually by the user or it can be a spot from the printed image.
  • Print Job Management :

Chromozone closely models the work flow on the press shop floor. A print job represents a work deliverable, encapsulating forms and layouts in their natural hierarchy. The intuitive touch-screen based user interface provides the operator and manager with the bird's-eye view of jobs in the queue. Eye-catching graphics and text highlight the states of the various entities, making it easy to manage the overall printing process.
  • Quality Measurement :

SCAN module gathers all the required color data in order to asses the print quality and determine the extent of compliance with standards and process targets. All relevant parameters such as density, L*a*b*, grey balance, dot gain, slur, contrast and so on are measured using a spectrophotometer and stored in database for further analysis.
  • Color Control :

BASE calculates ink-key presetting values based on image ratios of the color separations by applying the ink-key transfer function. HELIX closes the control loop by applying ink-key corrections based on the color deviations measured while scanning the sheets during printing. The system automatically adjusts the control depending on the response of the press at the time of actual printing.
  • JDF Input :

Chromozone can accept conventional printing JDF files as input and create jobs based on them. It also accepts CIP3 files for calculating ink-key presetting values.
  • Job Quality Analysis :

LAB module mines the data gathered by the scans done and generates reports as well as highlights trends in the form of charts and graphs. A unique quality index generated by Chromozone enables comparison of jobs run at different points of time, setting benchmarks for customer acceptance and even for comparing two different presses.
  • Test Runs - Press Calibration :

DNA module assists in conducting test runs on the press to determine Ink-key Transfer functions, Tone Value Increase and Print Contrast. Users can define the test chart, set target values, measure the printed test charts, generate reports and update the process targets using this.
We are using Chromozone to control our Techkon SpectroDrive auto tracking spectrophotometers on all our presses. We currently use it to analyze and display the measured data on screen for operator intervention. We look forward to taking this further with the closed loop system with automated ink key correction data being sent by Chromozone directly to our Mitsubishi presses.
